Just like you, your little one too needs snacks in between meals. Though, it might be convenient for you to put some packaged thing in the little hungry hands but then you too are aware how unhealthy most of those packaged ready to eat snacks are. It is very much probable that you are a busy parent and are always in a hurry.

1. Hard Boiled Eggs

Eggs are high in protein and vitamin and low in calories with around 70 calories in an egg. Egg tastes great and is mostly liked by kids. Just peel an egg and add salt and pepper to it and give it to your child when he feels hungry. Making a hard-boiled egg takes only a couple of minutes and if you want you can cut short on that time too by boiling a few eggs and keeping them in the refrigerator for an entire week. There are number of very easy dishes that you can make from those eggs as well. One them is Egg salad! even you can enjoy it. Just cut and toss those eggs in a bowl with whatever you like.

2. Fruits or 100% fruit pouches

Banana, apple and oranges and often liked by kids and if you are one such lucky parent whose child likes eating fruits then hand over this healthy snack to him whenever he is hungry. Fruits are not only rich in fiber but also rich in vitamins and other minerals. You can also offer a packet of pureed fruit to your kid which is also a great alternative to whole fruits, though might not be equivalent in nutritional value. These squeezable packets are filled with real fruits, concentrated fruit juice and no added sugar. If you do not trust packaged fruit, fruit salad is the best option for those kids who hate fruit. Add a bit of fresh cream to the fruits with a bit of sugar and salt and voila! The delicious snack is ready. Your kids are going to love it.

3. Yogurt majic

Yogurt is one of those nutritious food items for that matter. You can easily give it a quick and tasty twist in minutes. Add fruits (or some particular fruit that your child loves) to the yogurt to give it a flavor and see your child slurp it all up. You can also add some cookies to give it a crunchy bite. If you are running really short of time then you can pick Greek yogurt that not only is flavored but also contains high amount of protein in it.

Strawberry-Yogurt Popsicles

Makes 6 popsicles (3-ounce molds)

1 pint fresh strawberries, hulled and roughly chopped
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon lemon juice
6 to 8 ounces (about 1 cup) Greek yogurt

Combine the strawberries and sugar in a small bowl. Let stand about 20 minutes to macerate the fruit, stirring occasionally. The fruit will soften and become syrupy.

Pour the strawberries and syrup into a food processor or blender. Add the lemon juice and pulse a few times until the fruit is pureed.

Stir the yogurt into the strawberry mixture until combined. Pour into molds and freeze for at least 8 hours or overnight. To remove, run hot water over the outside of the mold until you can gently pull the popsicle out.

4. Go ‘Nuts’

Nuts are high in protein, fiber and a number of minerals. They are tasty and boost your energy levels in no time. Just be sure that you give the right serving to your kid as nuts are mostly in high in calories. Kids are often found to be fond of nuts like almonds, walnuts, pistachios, etc.

5. Nutrition bar

Nutritional bars are surely good snacking choice for your kids. But while shopping for the same make sure to check the nutritional information on the pack. Choose one that has less calories and added sugar but more of protein and other essential nutrition. In fact, you too can put a few into your gym bag or your purse when you are  in an absolute rush! They are delicious as well!

6. Popcorn love

Make popcorn at home and enjoy the goodness of it at snack time. They contain less calories, high fibre and are a favourite with kids. They come in different flavours as well. You can take your pick from from golden butter , chilli and a number of others.

7. Glass of chocolate Milk

Kids may have an inborn enmity with milk but milk is a complete food with a lot of important nutritional values in it. But every kid loves chocolate! So make the milk chocolaty for your kid so that it tastes less like milk and more like a chocolate drink and you are ready with one of the best drink for your kid. Check the energy values before you buy one of those chocolate powders though.

8. Brown rice cake with nut butter

Brown rice cake is good for the health with few calories in it. Spread your kid’s favourite nut butter on it and top it with some chocolate chips or honey and a great healthy and tasty snack for your kid is ready. Try some nuts too to mke it more crunchy and healthy.

9. Hummus

Hummus is high in fiber, low in calorie and great in taste. Give your kid hummus with veggie sticks like carrot, celery or cucumber, add it to pita, fruits or crackers, or dash it into a tortilla and roll it up. In every way it will taste great and work as a healthy, quick and tasty snack for your kid.

10. Celery stick with peanut butter

Put some peanut butter on celery sticks and let your kid munch on a healthy snack that tastes great too.
