10 Ways of Adding Geek-Quotient to Your Toddler’s World

PC: Facebook.com

Albert Einstein is probably the greatest geek the world has seen till date. And his greatest contributions have been the two theories of relativity which were once considered as theories of nonsense. The geek simply seems to be a person whose intellect is far advanced compared to the present day evolution. It is therefore no surprise that many parents prefer having a ‘geeky’ child. Gone are the days when a geek was considered a freak. Geek is cool now! And here are 10 ways you could ‘geekify’ your little one’s world so that one day he/she might actually grow into one hell of an intellectual.

Creating a geeky environment for your little one can be great fun!

1. Geeky Toddler T-shirts

There are a lot of outfits out there which carry messages oozing with geeky humor. From presenting the baby’s hunger status in C++ language to carrying funny insults, these tees definitely tease! They arrive in all sizes and so your little one can start cuddling in them from the age of 3 months itself. You could up the ante by ordering a similar tee for yourself and being a happy, geeky family – at least where dresses are concerned!

2. Mathematical Blankets and Techno-Tool Pillows

There are a host of geeky bedspreads, blankets and pillows to ensure that your baby dreams intellectual and then wakes up to realize his/her dreams. Blankets in bright color sporting the famous Pythagoras Theorem and pillows having the shades of some of the world’s most popular techno-tool logos are sure to grab the eyeballs of anyone visiting the home.

3. Star-Trek Themed Bib

Feeding the baby is often very time-consuming and frustrating too. It could be made into a very entertaining and fun thing with a geeky bib themed along Star-Trek lines. There are LEDs all over the bib and they activate in patterns according to the movement. The dazzle of lights will ensure that the food moves in quickly before the baby even realizes and shows the baby in cool light to the onlookers.

4. The Geek-A-Bye Baby Crib

This is a 3-piece crib-bedding set that comes with all the comforts and luxuries. Made from either cotton or flannel, the bed sits in the crib whose size can be made to order. The best part however is that the crib can be themed along any idea from the vast geekdom which exists on the planet. So, whether it is Sci-Fi or Cartoon, Comics or Equations, all can be accommodated here.

5. Wall Decals

The different system commands have been carefully moulded into tech-inspired decals for walls in the bathroom or even the bedroom. Will you not feel proud to say that you baby grew ‘within these geeky walls’? They are sure to strike some curiosity in your little one.

6. Little Bits Starter Kit

Want your kids to be an engineer, robotist or biologist and don’t know  where to start developing that interest? well, this little kit is the answer. It contains  10 tiny, colour-coded circuit boards that connect to each other via magnets. Each one does something different. The fact that each combination yields something different gives ample  opportunity to your kid sharpen that buddying IQ of his/her  by thinking up different different combos. This is almost like Dexter’s laboratory and will fascinate your kid endlessly.

7. Anteater Bug-Vac

This is bug watching with a twist. Anything moving that is not a human enthralls the kids no end. This anteater bug-vac from Uncle Milton vaccums up the bug and holds it in its belly for quite a through examination. This a fun way of getting to know the habitat that the kids live in. This close inspection is sure to arouse curiosity in the child and make him inquisitive. Make sure you release the bug in its habitat once you are done with the inspection though.

8. Nerdy Flashcards

Every kid goes through the introduction to the alphabets with the help of alphabetical building blocks. But not for your budding nerds! use nerdy flash cards and your kiddy geniuses will do you proud in no time by chanting A for Atom , B for Binary Code…….There is another perk of it! you will get to answer the terms with the alphabets once your kid is old enough to question you about them.

9. Bedtime Story With A Twist

Rapunzel and Snow White are evergreen, agreed! But innovation is called for in every field ,even  bedtime stories! Try The Very Hungry Zombie by Michael Teitelbaum or maybe the bedtime story versions of the classics such as Emma , Moby Dick etc. These books make your kids think beyond the unicorns…they make them think about unicorns with wi-fi horns and a teleportation tail !

10. Grow Things

Nature is our greatest teacher. There are a number of things that your kids can learn when they go close to nature. Grow things with your kids. Do a bit of gardening in the fresh air and answer your kids enquiry as to ‘what is that?’, ‘how does it grow?’, ‘why does it grow ?’ etc!

Whether geeky is cool or not is a matter of perspective. For those that love geeky, the other perspective just doesn’t matter! Let your kids choose though once they are of the age, you can baby them around for only so long.
